Meditation is one of those things that we all know we should do, but don’t always make the time for. Mornings can be a whirlwind making sure everyone gets out the door on time, and evenings are spent prepping for the next day. But meditation is especially important if you’ve got too much on your mind, you’re overworked, or you just want to feel more grounded in general. It can lead you towards self realization, happiness, and peace of mind.
Here’s the best part: you don’t need a special soundtrack, pose, or pillow—you can meditate anywhere, anytime!
Meditating has helped me personally and I know it has helped many of my friends that suffer with illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and stress. Even if you know you don’t suffer from any stress, you’ll want to consider trying meditation.
For some, it’s a bit difficult reaching a meditative state, and I’ll admit, it was very difficult for me at first as well. My mind loves to wander and stress and think about stuff I probably shouldn’t think about. This is one of the reasons why I run but it all started when I gained a few pounds over the holidays then around that same time I began my second job… which also contributed to the stress and consequently more weight gain. So, I decided to pick up running to help me shed those extra pesky pounds.
Running, I discovered though, allows me to clear my mind and just think about my surroundings, my breathing, and nothing else. When I run I go into a state I like to call “running meditation.” This was a bonus to the weight loss that came with running daily.
Every day, at five in the morning, I wake up with no alarm. It’s just natural now. When I discovered that I could achieve meditation and 100% peace of mind when I ran, I made a commitment to myself that I would run every day.
I lost those extra pounds, and I lost them fast, too, because of the great workout running naturally is, but that was a long time ago. I am in the best shape of my life but I still don’t want to give up running.
I LOVE MORNING RUNS BECAUSE I CAN BE ALONE AND EVERYTHING IS QUIET.
When I start running, I quickly switch into a different mental and physical gear. I focus on my breathing and how my lungs expand and contract with every breath. My mind and my body become connected. The wind hitting my face and all of the nature around me makes me live for the present, the here and now. I just live in that moment and for nothing else.
After the second lap of running, I fall into a sort of nirvana state. I call it my “meditation” state. This is where my body and my mind fuse into one and my mind slows down so all of the noise outside and all of the problems and worries I may have been thinking about in that moment seem to disappear. Good vibes reach down into my soul and stay there while I run. No negativity, physical or emotional can enter my mind when I’m in this state. Everything is just peace and quiet.
RUNNING KEEPS MY BODY BOOSTED
After my run, which is quite the workout, I get really hungry and my muscles aren’t satisfied until I eat. This way, I never overeat because all of my muscles just absorb everything. It’s a great feeling.
My body keeps itself tuned up which is good because I plan on running every single day.
